Meet the maker

Carrie, the Queen Bee.

Carrie has been quilting and teaching across Alaska for years, drawn to the way a pile of fabric becomes something a family keeps for generations. Queen Bee is her studio: she designs original patterns, teaches classes for every skill level, and takes on a handful of custom quilts each year. Her teaching is patient and practical, the kind that gets a nervous beginner to a finished quilt and keeps seasoned piecers reaching for something new.

The method

From fabric to finished quilt.

  1. Step 01

    Pick a pattern or class

Start with a pattern to piece at home or a class on the calendar, whatever fits where you are.

  2. Step 02

    Gather your fabric

Carrie helps with fabric and color choices so the quilt feels like yours before the first cut.

  3. Step 03

    Piece it together

Sew along step by step, in class or on your own, with guidance whenever you get stuck.

  4. Step 04

    Finish and keep it

Quilt it, bind it, and you have something handmade to keep or give for years.

Kind words

From the quilters.

I finished my first quilt in Carrie's beginner class and cried a little. She makes it feel doable, never fussy, and her patterns are so clearly written.
Linda P. Anchorage
Carrie's trunk show and workshop were the highlight of our year. Warm, funny, and genuinely generous with what she knows.
Dana & the Mat-Su Quilters Palmer
She made a wedding quilt for my daughter that took our breath away. Heirloom quality, and a joy to work with from start to finish.

Good to know

Common questions.

Do I need to know how to quilt already?

Not at all. There are classes and patterns made specifically for first-timers, and Carrie's whole approach is to meet you where you are.

Can I buy patterns if I'm not in Alaska?

Yes. Patterns ship anywhere, and many are available as instant digital downloads, so you can quilt along from wherever you are.

Where do the classes happen?

In and around Anchorage and Southcentral Alaska, with guild talks and retreats further afield. The current schedule lives online.

How does a custom quilt work?

We talk through the occasion, size, colors, and budget, then Carrie designs and makes it by hand. Custom quilts are limited each year, so reach out early.

How do I get started?

Email Carrie a little about what you'd love to make or learn, and she'll point you to the right pattern, class, or commission.
