Released: 2003

"The World's Sleaziest Rock Bands."
That's a bold gauntlet to throw down, and Sleazegrinder, aka Ken McIntyre, lays it at your feet right on the front cover. And what a cover it is, all hot pink tigerskin in the background with a blonde, pistol-toting honey busting out of her halter top, daring you to come hither. With an inner sleeve displaying more sleeze and nudity than I've ever seen on a rock album (imagery which also had it turned away by 6 squeamish printers and nearly caused an international incident at the border to the north), this record makes no bones about what it is. After all, as the press release for the record proclaims:

There's about a million of these High Energy Punk N' Roll type compilations floating around and I'm glad I don't have to review a lot of them because for the most part they're all the same bands over and over again. However, I was pleased as punch when I checked out the tracklisting on this one and found that it was almost entirely bands that I hadn't yet heard. While there aren't any outright bad songs on the CD, there are a couple of shameless Hellacopters rip-offs that I could do without but still serve as decent background noise between the really good stuff. Standout tracks include: The Lanternjack's (the only band in Detroit that matters) "Pretty Hex"; the almost Horror Rock sounding "Jersy Devil" by Rock City Crimewave (great name, btw); The Erotics' catchy glam number, "Space Age Mafia"; "Hot Alot", a sorta creepy, Danzig-esque tune by Queen Bee; the ass kickin' southern rock in overdrive of Bad Dog Boogie's "Highway of Your Soul"; The Vibratos' slow, Sabbathy "Ballad of Dorgas Figg" and "Temple of Your Choice" by Rickshaw who remind me a great deal of one of my favorite bands, Gluecifer. All in all, Cock 'n' Roll is a damn good addition to any Rock Fiend's record collection or a great introduction to the real Rock underground for the uninitiated.

Queen Bee take us through a sexual & lysergic song with a good guitar work & a great chorus, while the vocals have a very cool & modern approach. Queen Bee isn’t just a beautiful blonde girl (she’s on the Cock'n'Roll cover, so no more words are needed) but also a singer with very good vocal duties and a great attitude!!!
Track 12: Hotalot
Band: Queen Bee Origin: Detroit
Production: Registato to the Brown Rice I Study from Warn Defever. Produced from Warn Defever and Karen Neal Line up: Queen Bee aka Karen Neal (singin', squealin', bass humpin' & sheer audacity), Terry Bradley (thunderin' drums, backups & bad attitude), Joey Mazzola (guitar wankin' & star power), plus special guest Jay Wrobel (backup vocals & young blood) website

When I receive a compilation of 26 different bands and songs I’ve never heard of, I get a little bit of an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Is it really worth listening to? Should I pass up a compilation of songs about fucking, err…I mean sex and rock n’ roll? But hey, even if the songs sucked and don’t get me hot and bothered, at least there’s some eye candy inside of naked chicks.
Well, I was wrong on both counts. There’s better free porn all over the internet and the songs got me bothered all right… bothered enough to kill someone if this music ever got me laid.
But in good rock n’ roll spirit here are the gems I found on this album. Laternjack’s “Pretty Hex” was definitely a hard hitting, cock rock song. “Porn Star” by Porn Rock is a sexy song. If Barbie worked at a strip joint and instead of a lap dance you wanted her to sing to you, this would be what it sounded like. Queen Bee’s “Hot Alot” is also sexy but it can turn into the whips and chains type. The vocals are sweet but can suddenly make the hairs on your neck stand up with one of her cat like screams. There’s also a pretty sweet guitar solo in the middle of the song. The Double Barrelled Slingshots’ “The Truth About Boys and Girls” reminds me of a song the Lunachicks could’ve come out with. Skum’s “Slut” is what I think this album was really going for. The name says it all. I can hear this song being played in strip clubs, bedrooms, public bathrooms, wherever! The lyrics are funny but definitely nasty with hard hitting drums and grinding guitars. Finally, I have to give it up to the funniest band Dog Shit Boys for their song “One Minute Fuck”. When the vocalist evilly growls “oh baby I’m a one minute fucker” I’m thinking “oh baby you’re my worst nightmare.”
So go on rockin’ with your bad selves, even if it’s without this compilation. But do try to check out those bands for a good time or even for a laugh.
